FriendlyFrench Etiquette - Business Meetings

The tips on a formal meeting etiquette described above should be
sufficient for a first business meeting. In addition to these, remember
to maintain eye contact with your French counterparts. This shows that
your full attention is on them.
Punctuality is not a very big issue in France. People generally turn up
a few minutes to a quarter of an hour late. You should not make a big
issue of it.
The French like a professional attitude at all times. Displaying
anger, irritation and impatience is a mark of unprofessionalism. Always
try to discuss matters harmoniously. It may produce better results than
confrontations.
For business meetings, formal attires such as tailored suits, pants
and skirts are desirable. Casual wear should be left for more casual
settings like discos, lunches…etc. Meetings at chic gastronomic
restaurants also warrant formal dress.
The French are quite tolerant to the mannerisms of the foreigner.
Mistakes are generally disregarded. They may correct your more offensive
mannerisms but this will be done in a discreet way. Foreigners should
therefore not be scared of making contact with the French as they are an
amicable people with a lot of humor!
